As with most PC gamers and users, I’m always looking for the best keyboards and mice I can get my hands on, both figuratively and literally. Our friends at Turtle Beach have come through once again to let me check out the new Turtle Beach Vulcan II TKL Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. If you’re looking for a compact yet solid keyboard that’s pretty versatile, you’ll want to let your fingers give this one a try.
Turtle Beach went all out for hooking up one of their classic keyboards with some of the latest and greatest technology possible. First off, I’m loving the sand blasted, anodized aluminum top plate that gives it a smooth but solid feel that’s meant to last. I also enjoyed the the double kickstands on the back that keep it held up in place along with the soft palm rest that’s perfect for long gaming or typing sessions.
For the first time ever in Vulcan series, the Vulcan II TKL Pro comes equipped with analog hall-effect, adjustable magnetic switches that deliver buttery smooth key presses. They also feature a 150 million click lifecycle and use T-shaped caps that allow you to use third party keycaps to fully customize it to look the way you want (unlike the SteelSeries Apex 9 TKL that only uses their brand).
You can also adjust the actuation points for the keys, as each one has 40 presets from 0.1mm to 4mm with up to three inputs per key. Even better is that these can be adjusted altogether using the keyboard itself, or if you want to take precision to new levels, you can adjust them individually with the updated Swarm II software.

Speaking of which, the propriety software grants you a slew of options to custom tailor the Vulcan II TKL Pro to your liking. You can adjust all sorts of things such as the AIMO RGB lighting that can be synced with other compatible AIMO-enabled products, assign controller emulator features such as left analog stick control, assign left and right trigger control for gradual acceleration or braking in racing games, or even setting key macros.
I also like the media knob that’s perfect for adjusting your PC’s volume at any time and can be pressed to mute as well. Another cool feature is the Rapid Trigger setting that allows you to rapidly press and release keys with minimal finger lifting, and it also features advanced anti-ghosting to make sure every keystroke registers, even when you press multiple keys at once.
Conclusion: TKL FTW
The Turtle Beach Vulcan II TKL Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is one of the best keyboards I’ve used, tenkeyless (TKL) or otherwise. It’s a light but sturdy device that’s loaded with sweet feeling switches, special features and enhancements both baked into the keyboard itself and enhanced when using the Swarm II software. All this makes for a small but mighty option almost everyone – especially games – will love using.
