While there are many companies out there making PC gaming peripherals, Razer is the one you tend to see the most. And rightly so as they have both tech experts and actual professional gamers coming together to make their products some of the best available. Their latest is the Razer Viper V2 Pro Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse that’s easily one of the best, versatile, and solid mice you can get right now.
Building off the success of their other gaming mice and the previous version of the Viper, Razer has pulled out all the stops with this upgraded model, starting with its super sleek, lightweight but surprisingly sturdy exterior (and you can add on the included textured grips which I love) . You’d think for a mouse built this well they would have to sacrifice maneuverability by having it be weighed down, but that’s not the case here as it only weighs a nifty 58g.
At the heart of this beast is Razer’s new and improved Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor that they worked on with Pixart to give users up to 99.8% resolution accuracy. This means you can use the mouse on a wide variety of surfaces with flawless tracking such as those with glass top desks up to 2mm thick, and more. Even on my current wood top desk that I’ve had for a few years with slight nooks and bumps on it, the mouse glided and performed perfectly.
One of my favorite improvements are the new Gen-3 optical switches that promise up to 90 million clicks with no double-clicking issues (which sadly has plagued a lot of their mice *looks sternly at Razer’s Deathadder*) and no debounce delay which is also a nice plus. There’s also an improved battery inside that’s lighter and gives up to 80 hours of use on a single charge, which is also in part of the device not having any flashy RGB lighting to eat up power.
Then we have their Hyperspeed Wireless technology that ensures your wireless gaming sessions are lag-free and that it gives this same kind of performance on just about any device you connect it to. As much as I like wireless tech, I also love that you can use the mouse wired with the included USB-C charging cable.
Razer could’ve just left the Viper V2 at that and been happy, but since they’re not one to rest on their laurels, they’ve also included some sweet extras such as such as Smart Tracking, Motion Sync & Asymmetric Cut-off.
They’ve upgraded the asymmetric cut-off feature that uses AI to make sure the mouse has perfect precision by adjusting each lift-off and landing you do and will maintain a consistent lift-off distance no matter what surface you’re using it on.
As if that wasn’t enough, their patented Motion Sync matches the Viper V2 movements to the exact intervals your PC extracts information, ensuring your mouse and gaming rig give you precise position and tracking in game that gives you an insane and nearly unfair advantage.
This is definitely the case in some of the games I used this on such as Destiny 2, The Division 2, Apex Legends, Doom Eternal, and some others. I also like the fact that the mouse has on-board memory to save your settings such as DPI speed you can adjust on the fly and custom button settings to make sure you’re ready to play no matter where you take it.
If there’s any cons to be had, the asking price of $150 might be steep for some, but you’re really getting what you pay for when picking up the Razer Viper V2 Pro Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse. It’s everything you could possibly want in a gaming mouse and more thanks to solid construction, being lightweight, and having a ton of bells and whistles to make sure you dominate and then some in any game you play.
