It’s hard to believe that Roccat’s first-ever product was the original Kone gaming mouse back in 2007 that brought some much needed competition into gaming products while also changing mice for the better. Now fifteen years and some few revisions later, we’ve come to their latest and possibly greatest version, the Roccat Kone XP Wired Gaming Mouse.
Right out the box the first thing that will catch your attention is the beautiful translucent shell that shows off the hypnotizing 16.8 million colors from 22 LED lights and eight light guides that flow through it thanks to Roccat’s AIMO lighting engine. If you have any of their other products such as the Magma and Vulcan keyboards, you can sync the colors together for truly mesmerizing results.
The lights even surge through its 4D “Krystal Wheel” to give the mouse wheel a 3D lighting effect. The wheel also has left and right lateral inputs along with the standard vertical click and scroll function that all feature a satisfying tactile feel which I’m always a fan of. I also love the device’s “Kone” shape that feels comfortable no matter what type of grip you use.
Then there’s the massive fifteen buttons this thing has, and Roccat’s Easy-Shift+ technology allows for 29 possible button functions with them, which comes in handy for any game you can throw at it. From MMOs to Elden Ring, whenever you need quick access to skill buttons, this mouse has your back.
Then there’s the left and right click buttons that feature a tactile and responsive click every time. And with a 100 million click life cycle, you’ll get your money’s worth and more as you dominate both your games and any online competition you come across.
Of course none of these things would matter if not for the core of the mouse, which is the “Owl-Eye” 19K DPI optical sensor that tracks any movement with laser precision for the best accuracy you can get. You can also customize the sensitivity settings with Roccat’s Swarm software to perfectly fit with your play style.
If that’s not enough for you, this mouse is also compatible with NVIDIA’s Reflex technology featured in their GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs and G-SYNC monitors. This gives users the lowest possible latencies with sub-25 millisecond response times to make sure you’re always the fastest in a fire fight and the most accurate.
This mouse also features Roccat’s PhantomFlex cable and heat-treated PTFE glides to make sure the cable won’t snag on anything or get tangled on itself while also giving the device smooth as silk movement across your mousepad or desk surface.
The Roccat Kone XP Wired Gaming Mouse is one of the most solid gaming mice you can pick up right now, thanks to its features that focus on accuracy, precision, and versatility. Even better is that you’re getting all of this for under a hundred bucks ($89.99 at most retailers), which sweetens the deal on an already awesome mouse you’ll want to add to your gaming arsenal.
