If you caught my reviews for Gunnar’s AC: Mirage and Marvel’s Loki glasses, you’ll see I was already more than impressed with how cool and functional they are. Now I’m more than happy to say that our friends at the company were more than kind to send me not one, but two of their latest releases with the Gunnar Call of Duty UAV and Alpha Edition Glasses.
If you’re looking for something to protect your eyes against harmful blue light from your computer, phone and tablet screens as well as block UV rays from the sun, all while looking stylish, these are the ones to get. Did I mention they also come with redeemable codes for a digital in-game item for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?
These official Call of Duty licensed glasses come in two flavors, the Call of Duty Alpha Edition and the UAV Edition. The alpha ones run for $59 normally, but Gunnar was awesome and sent me their prescription version that goes for $209. They feature precision engineered, onyx infrared colored polymer frame material that are lightweight, nice and sturdy, and have multi-barrel hinges with amber tinted lenses.
The Call of Duty UAV Edition glasses are the premium version of their lineup and retail for $99 but I received the prescription pair that runs for $249. I noticed because of the hefty aluminum-magnesium forged frame that these are slightly heavier than the alpha version, but you also feel the high-quality they’re crafted with.
They also have some of my favorite features, adjustable nose pads and flexible spring hinges that make the temples resistant to bending or breaking, just in case something pulls them the wrong way. These too feature amber tinted lenses, and both versions feature Gunnar’s patented G-Shield lens coating to make them anti-reflective, smudge resistant and oil-repellent.
It felt so good wearing these with my prescription baked into them as it felt like I was seeing the world through new eyes, both figuratively and literally. It’s like having one of those blue light blocker programs for PC and mobile devices but for your eyes. Everything has that slight yellow tint, but you’re able to see things much clearer and without the darkness that comes with wearing regular sunglasses, making these perfect for day or night use.
My eyes could definitely feel the difference as looking at everything felt so much better without harmful and annoying blue light causing eye fatigue, and I love having the UV rays from the sun and glare being blocked that’s always a plus. I also love how they both come with a sweet glasses case, a microfiber pouch to keep them scratch free, and a cleaning cloth and 12-month warranty should anything happen.
Call of Duty fans most likely already have these in their arsenal, but even if you’re not a fan of the game franchise and are looking for some well-made, stylish glasses to block out blue light and UV rays, you’ll want to lock and load with the Gunnar Call of Duty UAV and Alpha Edition Glasses. They look and feel great for both day or night use, and your eyes will thank you for them too.
