After being blown away by the SteelSeries Arena 7 speaker system, I didn’t think it would be possible for anything to amaze me like it did. Leave it to audio pros Creative to prove me wrong with their latest audio entry, the Creative Pebble Pro USB Speakers, which deliver clean, bass-filled sound for those looking for the perfect desktop speakers on a budget.
Most PC users already know about Creative’s round speaker look, and they’re still going strong with these with a unique dark green color instead of the standard black that most tech out there uses. Each speaker is made from sturdy plastic and are roughly five inches in height, width, and diameter with the audio drivers tilted at a 45-degree elevated angle to make sure the audio hits your ears nicely.
These 2.25” full-range drivers feature digital amplifiers with built-in audio processing and their Bass-Flex technology which are a nice upgrade from the analog ones used in the previous Pebble series. This gives the speaker rich, clean sound and my favorite, a sweet amount of bass that’s near four times greater than the Pebble V3.
There is a catch to this though, and that’s where the power discussion comes into play. The cool thing about these is that you can plug these into your laptop or PC’s USB-A or USB-C port and enjoy them right out of the box, but you won’t get as much volume, sound, and bass from them. Thankfully, if you have a 30W PD adapter laying around (or you can purchase the one Creative has and was kind enough to send me with these speakers), that’s when you can tap into the true 60W power these possess.
If you’re looking for connectivity options, the Pebble Pro has plenty as you can connect audio devices via Bluetooth 5.3 with the handy Bluetooth pairing button on the front, a 3.5mm AUX-in port, or the other USB-C port that’s separate from the PD only port that allows audio streaming and power.
You can easily switch between audio sources by pushing in the volume knob to select the one you want, and power off the speakers by the knob in for a few seconds and releasing, For an added bonus, there’s a neat, AI-like voice that tells you which source you’ve selected, as well as the LED power light changing colors depending on the source chosen.
There’s also some handy headphone and microphone ports in case you want to transform the speakers into a communications hub or don’t want to disturb others. To make this feature even better, you can download Creative’s audio software to access their Clear Dialog setting that enhances vocals from anything you’re listening to such as movies or VoIPs so dialogue doesn’t get lost or drowned out by loud or overpowering background noises.
Then there’s the cool RGB lighting on the bottom of each speaker that’s a nice little addition. There’s small button you can press to select Cycle which goes through all the colors, Pulsate which slowly pulsates through the colors, and Solo which is just a static color you can choose by holding down the RGB button and using the volume knob to pick through the colors.
Add in the nearly six feet of wire between the speakers that offers some nice flexibility in placing them where ever you need them, and includes all of the cables you need such as a five foot long USB-C cable and 3.5mm AUX-in cable to get you connected right out of the box, and the Creative Pebble Pro USB Speakers easily becomes Creative’s best budget speaker set yet.
