I’ve been wanting and meaning to pick up a rice cooker for quite some time now, but could never find a solid one without paying hundreds of dollars for it. Well it looks like Toshiba has finally answered the call for a budget friendly device that’s reliable with their Toshiba Electric Rice Cooker. Now anyone can make rice that comes out great every time without breaking the bank.
After taking this small but sturdy cooker out the box, I was amazed at how many different settings it has. There’s White Rice, Quick Cook, Brown Rice, Mixed Grain, Slow Cook, Porridge, Cake, and even an Egg setting if you want to make boiled eggs. You can also get creative and use it to make oatmeal, stews, and more. There’s also a handy plastic measuring cup, spatula, and soup ladle included to get you started right away.
The thing I love most about this cooker is how it uses “Fuzzy Logic” to cook, which translates into it being able to sense the moisture of the rice or whatever you’re cooking and will adjust the temperature and cooking time accordingly, basically making this rice cooker fool-proof. I can attest to this working for real as there were times when I accidentally used either too much or too little water when making some rice and it still came out nicely. It’s also small in size to save countertop space, yet big enough to feed a family thanks to its three cup capacity.
Besides having an easy to read LCD display which always shows what time it is (and in 24 hour/military time at that), the function buttons are also easy to read and use too. I’m also a big fan of the timer setting for setting the cooker to make something later, such as setting it up early in the day to cook rice to go along with your dinner in the evening.
Also when you cook anything in it, I love how it automatically goes into “Reheat/Keep Warm” mode which is always a nice plus, as sometimes you can’t get to your finished rice right away because of an important, long phone call or other things that come up, and it’s awesome this cooker will keep your food warm and ready for when you are.
Another awesome bonus is how easy it is to clean when you’re done, as the inner pot is non-stick, making it super easy to wash by hand (sorry dishwasher users) and wipe clean. The inner lid removes easily to wash and snaps back into place, along with the removable steam vent piece in the back that can be taken apart to rinse out any water that built up in it from the steam, and you can let it air dry before locking it back together and snapping back onto the cooker.
I could go on more about how awesome the Toshiba Electric Rice Cooker is, as it also features safety measures such as a detachable power cord to prevent accidents should something snag on it, a locking lid to stop messes in their tracks should the cooker fall or tip over, a thermal fuse to prevent overheating, and more. It’s a small but mighty cooker that does everything the bigger, more expensive ones do and then some without hurting your wallet.
