It’s been a bit since I’ve used a waffle maker to make waffles, as most times I just make pancakes on the stove. But when I got the offer to review a waffle maker, and a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed one at that, I couldn’t pass it up.
Which brings us to Uncanny Brands’ Sonic the Hedgehog Mini Waffle Maker, which may be smaller than most waffle makers but is guaranteed to serve up up big-time fun for kids, as well as kid-at-heart adults, anytime waffles are needed. There’s always time for waffles!
I did some research on this waffle maker and learned that a slightly bigger version was created exclusively for Dave & Busters that you could win from their prize wall. Apparently, it was such a sought after item (no surprise) that Uncanny Brands decided to shrink it some and sell it to the masses.
I’ll admit, with the maker weighting slightly over a pound and a half, and sitting at 3.46” x 5.08” x 5.08”, I was put off a bit by its small size as it looks more like a toy for kids than a legit cooking device. But once I cleaned the non-stick waffle plates, plugged it in, sprayed on some cooking oil, and loaded it up with batter, I was a hedgehog’s uncle as it cooked up a very tasty waffle in about five minutes.
While I wish there was an on/off switch, once you plug the maker into an outlet there’s a handy LED light that glows to let you know it’s on and warming up. Once the light is off, you can add just enough batter to cover the bottom waffle plate that features Sonic with a mischievous grin of sorts, and a few minutes later the light will turn off and you’ve got a nice tasty treat. You can also let the waffle cook longer if you prefer one more brown and crispy.
Maybe one day we’ll get a bigger-sized version of this, but if you’re a fan of Sega’s famous hedgehog or just want a fun new way to cook your favorite battered treat in the kitchen, you can’t go wrong with the Sonic the Hedgehog Mini Waffle Maker. It may be small in size but this waffle maker is big on fun for kids and adults of all ages.
