NPD: May 2022: Mostly Old, Something New
NPD remains the gaming industry’s best snapshot of what’s moving and shaking up both physical and digital retail shelves across the country. All stats are for entertainment purposes only. Total sales of new gaming hardware and software topped $3.68 billion for the month, down a whopping 19 percent from last year’s $4.5 billion.
The Top Twenty software charts were largely unchanged from last month, though Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring returns to the top spot yet again. The only new entries for the month include Saber Interactive’s Evil Dead: The Game debuting strong in fourth, while Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim returns to the charts by squeaking in at number twenty.
Everything Else
June is usually the month when E3 happens – but not this year. Instead, big companies went all-out on streaming conferences, two of the biggest include Microsoft / Bethesda and the Summer Game Fest Live. What treats and treasures did they showcase? Did you know Metal Gear’s Hideo Kojima loves Top Gun: Maverick? Heck, everyone loves Top Gun: Maverick!
