Somethings gone wrong in the happy-go-lucky world of Nintendo…again! That’s right – on this brawling episode of the Popzara Podcast our own challengers Cory Galliher and Herman Exum enter the world’s wackiest fighting ring to talk about the latest, greatest and certainly most anticipated game of the year for Nintendo loyalists, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Switch! Packed to the gills with characters, levels, music and more Herman calls it “the most comprehensive and accessible Smash Bros. yet.”
It’s also the biggest Smash Bros, with a roster topping 70+ combatants culled from not just Nintendo classics like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby and Pokémon but a host of one-time rivals that include Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Cloud, Solid Snake and even a few members from the Belmont clan. It’s an astonishing cast that’s only going to expand even further as the expected DLC and Season Passes begin to trickle in.
So what can fans expect from Smash Bros. Ultimate? Lots of Nintendo-themed love, for starters. While some may scoff at the lack of true innovation on display in Ultimate, there’s no doubt that by playing it safe Nintendo has been able to create a unique fighting experience that appeals to both casual and the hardcore gaming communities. Will Ultimate finally be the game that makes Nintendo a legit contender in the fast-growing world of competitive eSports? Or will lackluster lag sully fans expectations about the future of the world’s most adorable attempt at online dominance?
Also on deck: can Ultimate finally supplant the GameCube-era Melee as the series’ most beloved entry? And can Nintendo ever truly leave their boxy GameCube behind? Has series creator Masahiro Sakurai finally grown tired of his most successful franchise? Will dreams be shattered when the inevitable dream mash-up of the Duck Hunt Dog and Cloud Strife doesn’t go the way many expected?!
These questions and more await you inside the ring – if you dare! Just kidding, you totally dare so listen now!
