It’s that time of the year again – movie award season! And there’s no bigger movie award show than the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, aka The Oscars. With the 92nd Academy Awards set to bestow their Oscar gold on February 9th we figured it’d be a great time to share our movie nerd editors’ Christian Stirling, Ethan Brehm and Nate Evans picks for the best, worst and everything else that impressed – and disgusted – them at theaters and streaming boxes in 2019.

In a year when the box-office was absolutely dominated by Disney it’s good to know there’s more than just superhero blockbusters and remakes available for your hard-earned movie money. It’s an impressive collection, one that includes major blockbusters, indie darlings, overhyped failures, foreign imports and lots of streaming classics all deserving of your precious time.

Favorites (in no particular order) include 1917, Zombieland: Double Tap, Avengers: Endgame, Little Monsters, Alita: Battle Angel, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, Dolemite Is My Name, Peanut Butter Falcon, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Brightburn, Rocketman, One Cut of the Dead, Ford v. Ferrari, Unicorn Store, Jumanji: The Next Level, Uncut Gems, I Am Mother and many, many others.

You thought we’d just be talking only about movies we actually liked? 2019 wasn’t short on stinkers, and the guys are equally generous in dishing out their least favorites, a wretched list that includes duds like Terminator: Dark Fate, Her Smell, The Lion King, Just Mercy, Glass, Hustlers, Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and more.

You’ll be amazed at how many “favorites” also made their respective “worst” lists. The guys also share their thoughts on potential Oscar winners, notable omissions, and everything else that made movie-watching in 2019 so memorable.
