Disney and Marvel return with The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Vol.3, as the amazing first season of the hti animated show continues with no signs of slowing down. There’s plenty of explosive comic book action to be had here for young and old, as well as fans and newcomers alike. As families are bound to enjoy the great characters and stories featured here.

As with the previous volumes, Vol.3 continues the adventures of Marvel’s famous superhero collective team as they fight to save the world in the six-episodes featured here, including the thrilling three-part story arc featuring Kang the Conqueror. The is one of the best in the series, as Kang tries to take over the world for personal reasons that have noble intentions, but ultimately ends up hurting many in the process. There’s also some pretty good stand alone episodes here as well, such as “Widow’s Sting”, which sees Hawkeye, Captain America, and Black Panther taking the fight to HYDRA to find Black Widow, and “Masters of Evil” has the evil Baron Zemo leading a team of super-villains who plan to take out the Avengers one by one.

Disney once again does an amazing job with the video transfer, despite the series still being confined to standard-definition DVD, as the picture is as clean and perfect as the format can be. The 5.1 sound serves up great audio as well, with every punch and heroic piece of dialogue comes in clear. I’m still crossing my fingers for a complete season one Blu-ray set in the future, though.

Since the disc is packed with Avengers action, there’s sadly only one special feature included: “The Avengers Unmasked: Masters of Evil” is a neat, pop-up trivia track that gives loads of cool facts on both the Avengers team and the super-villains featured in the “Masters of Evil” episode. While it is a pretty nice extra, it would’ve been nice to have some cast and crew interviews, some insight into the next season, etc. to pad out the relatively scarce six available episdoes.

Fans of previous volumes of Disney and Marvel’s hit animated series will definitely want to add The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Vol.3 to their collection, as it collects another six episodes on one budget-priced DVD. Standouts here include Kang the Conqueror’s impressive story arc, as well as choice stories for other Avenger members Hawkeye, Black Panther, and the villainous Baron Zemo all getting first-rate treatment. I wish there were more special features, though, and while its still not the ‘ultimate’ Blu-ray collection that we all know is coming down the line, these relatively inexpensive sets continue to be a treat worth looking out for, and its easy to recommend whooshing on down to your favorite retailer to pick this one up.
