Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension is a family treat for fans and newcomers alike to one of the best animated series on television today. While it helps to have seen some of the series to better understand the characters and zany humor, it’s not necessary to enjoy this amazingly fun adventure. The film smashed records when it first aired on The Disney Channel earlier this year, and the home release does it justice with a featured-packed DVD that’s sure to please fans and newcomers alike.

The story has our two favorite inventor stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb, along with their pet platypus Perry, following the always comedic Dr. Doofenshmirtz through his newest invention, The Otherdimensionator. After finding themselves in an alternate universe, the evil Doofenshmirtz there rules things with an army of robots, and plans to take over the original universe as well. It’s up to Phineas and Ferb, along with Perry making the sacrifice of revealing his secret identity as Agent P to the boys, to save both universes along with some help from their 2nd dimension selves and friends.

This two-disc DVD set is packed with all sorts of goodies that fans will love. Though it would’ve been nice to see the movie on Blu-ray, the visuals are clean and sharp for a DVD release and the 5.1 surround sound is also just as impressive, as all the songs, dialogue, and action sounds come through nice and clear. Better still, the special features are just as fun and zany as the movie itself. There’s eight minutes worth of deleted scenes, with a bonus episode from the series “Attack of the 50 Foot Sister”. What’s even better about the bonus episode is that it features character commentary on Major Monogram and Dr. Doofenshmirtz that’s a real hilarious treat for fans.

There’s even a “Perry-oke” mode that makes sing-along lyrics appear on screen whenever a song begins, featuring Perry as the bouncing ball. While the “Dr. D’s Jukebox-inator” feature gives you access to the songs only, where you can choose to watch them with or without Perry-oke mode activated.

The second disc houses the ever-popular ‘Digital Copy’ disc that also includes eight music tracks you can copy to whatever you play your mp3’s on. There’s also a fun little platypult kit you can put together to build a small plastic version of the device seen in the movie.

Fans loved Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension when it premiered on cable, and they’re sure to love it even more with this amazing, featured-packed DVD release. With fantastic acting from the cast and a zany story to match, Disney really went out of their way to make this a real treat for those of us who’ve been waiting to add a little more Phineas and Ferb to our home collections. Though it would have been nice to see a Blu-ray release as well, the picture and audio quality on this 2-disc set is superb, and the generous helping of special features truly are special. If your a longtime fan or just want to see what all the fuss is about, by all means take a chance on this great movie that’s based on one of the greatest animated shows ever made. You won’t be disappointed.
