Nickelodeon releases yet another compilation of some of their hit Nick Jr. shows with Nickelodeon Favorites: Once Upon a Rhyme, now available on DVD. Featuring nursery rhyme-themed episodes from favorites like Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, The Fresh Beat Band, Dora the Explorer, The Wonder Pets, and Blue’s Room that span over two hours of content, showcasing characters learning to work together, with plenty of animated preschool fun.

I thought the episodes presented here were just as fun as previous Nick Jr. collections, and are sure to enjoyed by children and their familes. Examples of some of the stories include the Bubble Guppies trying to put on a play about the three little pigs, while Dora helping the pigs and other classic storybook characters in her adventure. Some of the other episodes have The Wonder Pets come to the rescue of a cow in a pop-up book that needs help jumping over the moon, while Blue and some of her friends from the Blue’s Clues spin-off Blue’s Room act out their own take on the famed little red riding hood story.

As with previous releases, Nickelodeon has done a great job with transferring the episodes to DVD, as the shows look and sound as they should. There are no special features here, sadly, though with all the fun adventures featured on the DVD that kids are sure to watch again and again it’s a good bet they won’t even notice. This is a barebones budget-priced DVD, after all.

Nickelodeon Favorites: Once Upon a Rhyme is a nice collection of some of the network’s most popular shows starring recognizable friends and well-intentioned lessons for preschool viewers and their parents. And both are sure to get a kick out of going on adventures with the Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, The Fresh Beat Band, Dora the Explorer, The Wonder Pets, and Blue’s Room time and again. There’s no special features to speak of, but with just over two hours of fun content here most viewers probably won’t even notice. Those looking for an inexpensive, yet educational collection of fun and entertaining episodes for kids are sure to find it here, as parents might just catch themselves joining in on the party.
