A fun and unique series that captures the fun of a road trip mixed with anime tropes.

Seems like Wit Studio, the anime studio behind such hits as Attack on Titan and Seraph of the End can do no wrong as they’re back with another awesome series with The Rolling Girls: The Complete Series Blu-ray set. Featuring a fun cast of characters filled with plenty of spunk and heart, along with some cliched but amusing anime tropes, this is one show you’ll want to hit the road to pick up.

Ten years before the start of the series, there was a huge battle called the Great Tokyo War that destroyed Japan as we know it. Without any leaders, the country fell into ruin and chaos. The only way it could be salvaged is by splitting it up into ten territories that became their own independent prefectures, with each of them fighting one another to completely rule Japan and it make whole again. Some of the best heroes from the war are now leaders of a few of the prefectures and lead supporters called “Mobs”. Enter a young Mob by the name of Nozomi Moritomo, who is ordered by her badly injured leader to go on a big road trip of sorts with some of her friends and observe the other prefectures and also search for moonlight stones to increase their power. Little do these young girls know that the stones can both grant their users great power while also causing terrible destruction. It falls on them to make the best of this quest while seeking out the stones, all while having weird adventures along the way.

This series is probably one of the most unique I’ve seen in a bit, as I can’t recall watching one that has a fun group of young ladies going on a road trip while still clinging on to anime tropes we’re familiar with. It was fun seeing how these girls come together to tackle problems that come their way and trying to make the best of things. Funimation has done a great job as always with the high definition transfer, as the detailed visuals and audio come through sharply. When the road trip is over, you can check out the neat extras such as audio commentary on two episodes, textless opening and closing songs, and some trailers.

The Rolling Girls: The Complete Series is a fun and unique anime series that just about anyone can jump into and enjoy. Who doesn’t like taking a road trip with some fun-loving ladies going on wacky adventures? If this sounds like your kind of ride, then you’ll want to buckle up and get rolling with this Blu-ray set.
