I remember hearing about Revisions on Netflix some time ago and always wanted to check it out as I tend to view most of their anime. Now Sentai has released it on Blu-ray for those without the service or so-so internet with the Revisions: Complete Collection set. The main lead can be a bit annoying, but there’s plenty of mecha action here to make it worth watching.
via YouTubeIn this series we enter the life of Daisuke Dojima, a young teen who is convinced he’s a hero and destined to save the world from….something or another. He’s been thinking about this everyday since he was kidnapped as a child one day and told this from a mysterious woman that rescued him.
Looks like there’s some truth to it after all, as one day the entire prefecture of Shibuya is teleported hundreds of years into an apocalyptic future where humanity is struggling to fight off aliens known as Revisions. Thankfully Daisuke and his friends are saved by Milo, the mysterious woman who rescued him as a child.
She informs them about some powerful, mech-like suits called String Puppets that humanity is using to fight the aliens, and that Daisuke and his buds have the power to use them to give humanity a fighting chance. The fate of the world falls on them to learn how to use the suits to battle the Revisions while also trying to find a way back to their time, and of course both won’t be easy.
If you’re a fan of sci-fi action anime, you’re bound to have a good time with this series despite Daisuke always taking an opportunity to show off his hero complex. I’ll admit that it does tend to grate on your nerves more times than not, and tends to make the series drag more than it should.
This is also a CG animated anime, but it’s done pretty well and isn’t as janky as most of them tend to be. It also looks and sounds great in high-definition thanks to a Blu-ray release. There’s not much in the way of special features outside the usual clean opening and closing animations, but the series itself will keep you more than entertained.
An annoying lead character aside, Revisions: Complete Collection is a fun, sci-fi action anime that’s a nice way to spend a few hours. Those who push past the hero syndrome Daisuke has will enjoy the story of the characters trying to survive and find their way back home along with the impressive CG animated battles that’s definitely worth a watch.
