With all of the wild and exciting things you can do in Japan, it’s no surprise we have an anime that goes into one of the wildest things you can do. Enter Sentai’s release of Rent-a-Girlfriend Season One: Complete Collection, where we see what happens when rent a cute lady for a date or to impress your family and all of the zany compilations that come from doing so.
via YouTubeWe follow the life of young guy Kinoshita Kazuya, who is going out with one of the cutest girls in school and everything seems to be going his way. Of course this doesn’t last long at all as she brutally dumps him on a whim and moves on like he never existed, leaving Kinoshita crushed. Luckily he learns about a service that allows you to rent a girlfriend so he can save face and not look so bad in school and impress his family at the same time.
That’s where Mizuhara Chizuru comes into the picture as his new “girlfriend”. She’s not at all what Kinoshita was expecting as she’s cute, awesome, and friendly. As the two get to know each other through the renting service, we all know what comes next as the two start having genuine feelings for one another despite acting otherwise.
Add in the fact that Mizuhara’s life mirrors Kinoshita’s in a lot of ways, and that his ex-girlfriend decides to come back into the picture with some other girls that also like him in tow, and you’ve got a zany show that could only come from the world of anime.
I found myself liking this show more and more as it went on, as I couldn’t wait to see what crazy situation the characters would find themselves in next, and how they would get out it while also dealing with their budding feelings for each other. This is made better by having the show look and sound great on Blu-ray with high-definition visuals and audio.
The only special features included are the tried and true clean opening and closing sequences, but the episodes of Rent-a-Girlfriend Season One: Complete Collection are more than enough to keep you busy. It’s a fun and wacky anime filled with loveable characters you’ll want to keep instead of rent. Here’s hoping season two isn’t far behind as I can’t wait to see what happens next.
