Seems like not too long ago I was reviewing the debut home release of the new Powerpuff Girls series, which surprised me with how fun it is compared to the always awesome original show. Now the girls are back and fighting more crime before bedtime with The Powerpuff Girls: The Last Donnycorn DVD. Stuffed with twelve episodes, included a special double-length one, fans and those who enjoy cool cartoons will want to check out this power-filled release.

Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup continue to get into all sorts of wacky adventures in this new collection of episodes, starting with titular double-length episode, The Last Donnycorn. When Bubbles’ best friend Donny the unicorn shows up with some bad guys hunting him down, it’s up to the girls to put a stop to it and figure out why they’re trying to get rid of him. From here there’s a slew of other crazy-filled episodes, such as one where Donny finds a new best friend that makes Bubbles super jealous, another that has Blossom going up against a spoiled rich girl that’s running for school president, and there’s even an adventure where Bubbles asks for Blossom’s help on a school project, but the project gets turned into a city destroying monster by Buttercup. Yeah, don’t ask.

Whatever the case is, viewers are sure to have a good time as I did watching these comedic tales. The show continues to mix humor and action nicely as always, and has enough fun for fans or those new to the girls. With this being a DVD release, the picture and sound are good for what the format allows, but watching it on a high definition TV will make it appear out of focus a little and show some pixelation throughout the episodes. There’s also a lack of any special features, but with this running at nearly two and half hours, there’s more than enough Powerpuff action to keep viewers satisfied.

If love the old series and/or this one, you’ll want to fly over to your nearest store and pick up The Powerpuff Girls: The Last Donnycorn DVD. While it makes me wish this was on Blu-ray in a season set, this release is packed with enough funny and action-packed episodes to keep any fan or newcomer cheering these girls on.
