I remember like it was yesterday when the original Power Rangers series dominated TV and the toy market back in the early 90’s. I would’ve never imagined the franchise would become so big and last for as long as it has, especially with the upcoming, more serious-toned film to be released. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched any of the series, so I was glad to at least get caught up on one of the newer shows in the Power Rangers Megaforce: The Complete Season DVD set. Featuring twenty episodes on five discs, fans will want to grab their morphers and suit up for this collection.

As with most of the previous forms of the series, some evil aliens known as the Warstar set their sights on Earth and attack in hopes of taking it over. Lucky for us there’s a supernatural guardian named Gosei who just happens to be a friend of Zordon, along with his robot assistant Tensou, who set out to find five teenagers who can harness the power of the morphers and become Earth’s champions, the Power Rangers Megaforce. While a bit reluctant at first, the five heroes, Troy, Gia, Noah, Emma, and Jake vow to use their new powers and stop the Warstar aliens along with any other evil forces out there.

Anyone who is familiar with the power rangers already knows what to expect here, loads of martial arts action, spandex wearing heroes and villains, and Voltron-like robots that can transform and combine into a giant robot to fight off giant versions of the aliens that attack. Most older people will find the special effects, acting (more like “lack of”) and editing of the American footage mixed in with the original Japanese footage, laughable. But all that matters is that it hits all of the right points for its intended audience, kids. The shows looks and sounds as good as DVD can allow, so any viewers that watch will be more than happy. There’s even a few special features included like a character and zord image gallery, and “Power Rangers Morph Through 20 Years” that showcases how the show has changed over the past two decades.

If you’re a fan of the series or have kids that are, you’ll want to break out the spandex and pick up the Power Rangers Megaforce: The Complete Season DVD set. While most older people will see right through the campy, cheese-filled action, kids and die-hard fans will hop in their zords and join the power rangers in their fight to save the earth.
