You just can’t keep a fun genre of anime down, and that’s the tried and true harem one. Anytime you need some cliched but fun laughs, it’s the one genre that has yet to be beat. The latest entry in the series is Sentai’s Monster Girl Doctor: Complete Collection, which has loads of harem fun and monster-sized laughs and feels for all.
via YouTubeLooking oddly familiar to Sentai’s other monster harem release, Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls (some of the same people worked on both series), this show takes place in a fantasy world where humans and monsters have finally stopped fighting each other and now try to live in harmony. We follow the life of Dr. Glenn Litbeit, a young guy that just happens to be the town doctor….for monsters that is. With his monster assistant Sapphee that’s part snake, he’s doing his best to treat whatever injures and ailments the monster denizens come in with.
Of course it would be too much like right for the series to just be about that, as Sapphee has a major crush on Glenn, which soon turns into jealousy once cute looking female monsters come in for treatment, which is the majority of his clientele (hence the show’s title). Add in the fact that nearly all of them have the hots for Glenn and tend to enjoy their thorough examinations a little too much, leading Sapphee to place a python crush on him with her tail daily, and you have quite the zany harem with loads of laughs and fanservice antics.
As with most of the harem shows out there, I had a fun time with this one as I laughed, chuckled, and sometimes eye-rolled at the wacky things happening throughout. I really did enjoy how Glenn is just trying to do his job as a professional and a gentleman, only to have the ladies get into fanservice situations either knowingly or unknowingly. It’s also sweet how Sapphee is always getting jealous, but you can tell Glenn cares for her a great deal too.
As far as visuals and audio go, the series looks and sounds great in high-definition, which makes the comical gags all the more funnier. There’s also a nice amount of special features to check out after the show such as clean opening and closing animations, an original Japanese Teaser for the series, web previews and more.
Monster Girl Doctor: Complete Collection is another crazy fun harem that has the typical tropes the genre is famous for, but solid lead characters and zany fanservice will keep viewers watching until the clinic closes. Here’s hoping for a second season of laughs that’s the perfect cure for anything troubling you.
