I fell in love with Kung Fu Panda the moment I laid eyes on the trailer back in ’08, as I knew it was going to be a hit with Jack Black voicing the pudgy panda protagonist. With the release of the third entry in the franchise coming next week, it only made sense to re-release the first two films to get new families into the series while serving as a refresher course for those who have already seen them. The first of these is the two-disc Kung Fu Panda: Ultimate Edition of Awesomeness, which showcases the film on one DVD with an awesome bonus disc full of new extras that’s more fun than a bowl of dumplings…well maybe not to Po, but yeah.
I won’t get into reviewing the plot and such, as most people have seen or at least know about this movie. For those who haven’t, you’re in luck as we just so happen to have a full review of it HERE for you to enjoy. What I want to focus on is the bonus disc full of awesome goodies that really sets this collection apart from the previous releases. It jump kicks off with three animated shorts, “Secrets of the Furious Five” which stars the team and what each of them are about, “Secrets of the Masters” stars the three masters that helped out in the second film and shows how they became legends, and the all-new special “The Secret of the Scroll” goes into how Shifu and the furious five came to be. As any fan can imagine, the shorts are just as fun and cool as the movies, and will have viewers laughing and cheering in no time.
Just in case you have more kung fu cravings, there’s also a “Martial Arts Awesomeness” music video, “Mash-Up of Awesomeness: Slo-Mo” features all the slow-motion parts of the films that have become somewhat of a trademark throughout them, “Mash-Up of Blunders” is filled with laughs, and the sweetest treat of them all is a sneak peek of Kung Fu Panda 3 that fans will go nuts over.
While most have seen this film many times before while also being re-released as much, Kung Fu Panda: Ultimate Edition of Awesomeness is still one of the best things you can pick up out there. Featuring some pretty sweet special features to go along with an equally awesome movie, you’ll want to grab this for the whole family to spare with.
