With a title like Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, you just know you’re in for a wild and funny ride that only anime can provide. This is a show that’s still going strong after numerous shows and OVAs, so it only made sense it gets a movie, which brings us to Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll find even more to love in this near 90 minute adventure.
The plot follows our hero Bell Cranel, who has fought his way through many dungeons in the land of Orario with the help (and hinderance) of some friends he’s made along the way. One could say he’s more than earned a vacation, and thankfully he just happens to win one where he can finally relax and get away from it all. Yeah right, as of course he’ll have to fight through more dungeons in a new land thanks to being chosen as the champion of Hestia’s BFF, the goddess Artemis. Will Bell and the gang ever catch a break? What new and zany misadventures will they go on next? You’ll have to turn in and see the wackiness for yourself.
As with the previous entries of this franchise, the laughs and adventures just keep coming. If you enjoy comedy with your fantasy action anime, you’ll more than enjoy this film, though you’ll want to go back and start with the show and OVAs first. I’m always a fan of anime shows getting the movie treatment and this one is no different as the improved budget means better animation and artwork that comes alive in high-definition on Blu-ray. The details for the both the visuals and audio are great and pulled me into the fun and didn’t let go until the end.
Outside some Japanese promotional videos for the film, there’s not much in the special features department, but that’s okay as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion is worth the pick up for fans of the series. There’s plenty of fun and crazy misadventures to go on with the equally zany cast of characters that’ll leave you laughing and cheering as they tackle one dungeon after another.
