When most people think of adventure, there’s one name that comes to mind above all others, Indiana Jones. As with most children of the 80s, 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of the first adventure movies I was introduced to and fell in love with, with that love and admiration still being felt today by fans the world over. Given there’s a fifth movie currently in production, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon.
It’s hard to believe the original film came out forty years ago, and to celebrate, Paramount has given all of Indy’s classic adventures the 4K treatment in the Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection. Featuring amazing remastering for the visuals and audio, and coupled with a ton of special features, this is a must-have collection for any movie lover’s library.
It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, chances are you’ve seen any of the Indiana Jones films multiple times somehow, somewhere. Whether it’s Indy taking on Nazis searching for the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark, or stopping a black magic cult that kidnaps children and sacrifices people (gruesomely) in the Temple of Doom, to Indy going on adventures with his father (played to perfection by the late and always great Sean Connery) as they tackle Nazis looking for the Holy Grail in The Last Crusade, to the Cold War alien mysteries of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – that still has some of the classic Indy fun and charm despite being the black sheep of the franchise.
And for good reason, as two legendary filmmakers, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, shared their love of classic Hollywood adventure films and paired their powers together to give us the iconic, adventuring hero we’ve all come to know and love. It’s good to know that these awesome films have finally been remastered and preserved in 4K, transferred straight from the original camera negatives, to make sure everything looks as good as it possibly can. Also, the HDR mastering also helps as all of the colors pop off the screen and make sure lights and darks show up properly.
And we can’t have great picture with equally great sound, which these films are famously known for. From the crack of Indy’s whip, to John Williams iconic theme and music score, all of these have now been remastered from their original audio source in Dolby Atmos to make sure every explosion, sound effect and beautiful music piece sound perfect.
To wrap things up, there’s a bonus fifth disc included that contains all of the special features kicking off with a four-part documentary that features loads of interviews, behind the scenes footage, and more that shows all of the time and love that went into making these classics.
Then we have extras that go into the incredible sound effects, the iconic music by John Williams, the equally amazing special effects by Industrial Light and Magic, some of the cool stunts from the films, the women of the Indy films, and more to keep viewers busy long after the credits roll. There’s even a fun folded map included filled with fun facts, pictures, and locations from the films.
If you’re looking for a museum quality piece to show off your fancy 4K home theater, you’ll want to go on an adventure hunting down the Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection. The beautiful 4K HDR remaster for the visuals and Dolby Atmos remaster for the audio make these classics the perfect way to experience them for the umpteenth time. Add in the bonus disc packed with extras and you have a must-have release for anyone that loves adventure and movies.
