Leave it to Japan to take any subject and place an anime spin on it to make it that much more exciting or interesting. I didn’t think I could get into a cooking anime, but Food Wars changed that for me and everyone else who dived into it as well. Soma and friends are back once again to whip some tasty meals and strategies in Food Wars The Third Plate: Complete Collection Blu-ray set. If you love food and anime (and who doesn’t?), you’ll want to stack your viewing plate with this collection.

Our hero, Soma Yukihira, has fought his way into the Totsuki Fine Dining Academy, a cooking school for the best of the best. He hits the ground running as he learns what he can from the elite chefs there and begins to finally cook in his own style. He’ll need these new skills as he takes on one of “The Ten”, who are among the greatest chefs in the world.

And of course there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes with Soma’s friends as they have their own troubles to contend with where Soma will have to come in and lend his culinary skills. It’s going to be an uphill battle for Soma and the gang as they confront some of their greatest challenges ever while still trying to keep things fun and exciting along the way.

As with the previous seasons, this one doesn’t disappoint when it comes to keeping viewers on the edge of their seats when the cooking matches heat up and leave you sizzling for more. I’ve always liked how this show manages to find just the right mix of drama and humor, and that continues here perfectly while also adding some new characters into the mix to give Soma and his buddies some fresh meat to play off of (food puns for the win).

The high-definition visuals and audio come in clean and clear, and there’s not much in the way of special features outside of the usual clean opening and closing animations, but the season itself more than makes up for the lack of extras.

Fans of the series will want to get extra helpings of Food Wars The Third Plate: Complete Collection, as it’s the most intense of the seasons I’ve seen yet. Soma and the gang along with some new characters keep things fresh as the cooking action and drama turn up the heat to keep you satisfied until the next inevitable plate arrives.
