It’s 2015 and Dora the Explorer is still going on adventures. Nickelodeon has gathered some of her more exciting episodes focusing on her underwater escapades in the Dora’s Mermaid Adventures Collection. This two disc DVD set features six episodes of under the sea fun that kids and their families will gladly dive into.

The first DVD is Dora Saves the Mermaids, which also features an episode with the same name that has Dora going on a quest to return a magic crown to a mermaid named Mariana while also trying to stop an octopus from dumping garbage all over the kingdom. With a little help from a magic necklace that transforms her into a mermaid, her trusted friend Boots, Mariana and of course those who watch, she’ll be able to set things right. After that, two more episodes dealing with sea adventures are also featured, “Fish Out Of Water” and “Treasure Island”.

Moving on to the second disc, Dora’s Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom, is another episode of the same name that serves as a follow up of sorts to Dora Saves the Mermaids. This time Dora and Boots find a lost mermaid named Maribel while playing on the beach. The two of them take it upon themselves to help Maribel find her way back to her mother in the Mermaid Kingdom with the help of the mermaid charm necklace. It won’t be easy as the three of them work their way through the octopus’s garden (a nice little nod to The Beatles) and past some ocean rocks where they must summon all of the mermaids and find Maribel’s mom among them. Two more fun episodes follow afterwards, “Benny the Castaway” has Benny stuck on an island after his balloon runs out of air and needs Dora and Boots to come to the rescue. Then there’s “Dora’s Moonlight Adventure” where Dora takes care of three kittens only to find one goes missing at night not long after everyone falls asleep. It’s a moonlight adventure indeed as Dora and the other kittens search to find the lost kitty and make their way back home.

While the discs were a little on the short side, I thought the adventures featured on them were pretty cool. Luckily there are a few extras on the first DVD to watch after drying off from the underwater episodes. There’s two music videos for kids to sing along with, one called the “Clean-Up Song” and there’s a Yo Gabba Gabba! one to switch things up.

Dora’s Mermaid Adventures Collection is a nice two disc DVD set that has more underwater fun that kids and their families can shake a flipper at. While both discs are on the short side and have few special features, the six episodes here have more than enough exciting content to keep children happy. If you’re looking for something to keep the kids busy at home or on the road with a portable DVD player, you’ll want to fish up this set for them.
