I’ve been a huge Beavis and Butt-Head fan for as long as they’ve been around. I would watch and record it on VHS back in my teen years and I still crack up laughing at it now as I did back then. So when the opportunity arrived for me to check out the colossal Beavis and Butt-Head: The Complete Collection DVD set, I just had to review it. While it doesn’t feature every episode from the series which will be a bummer for some, it does contain the best of them along with the 2011 return series and a special collector’s edition of the movie that makes this the best set you can get at the moment.
For those who don’t know about this crazy comedic duo, Beavis and Butt-Head are two teens who are always watching TV and making fun of music videos that aired on MTV back in the 80’s and 90’s. Whenever they’re not at home doing that, they’re out and about getting into misadventures that mainly start with them wanting to do something, but usually ends up going wrong and landing them in all sorts of trouble at school, at the mall, and just wherever they go. Throw in the fact they love making fart jokes, gawking at women and their “thingies”, Beavis changing into the “Great Cornholio” whenever he eats too much candy, and other raunchy stuff they enjoy, and you have one of the most wrong but hilarious shows to ever air on TV.
This collection contains previously released DVD’s that feature a little more than half of the original 200+ episodes along with the 2011 return series across 12 DVD’s. It’s a shame that some of the episodes presented here are also edited, but it’s just small things here and there that are either removed completely or have additional footage thrown in. For a nice bonus, there’s a special collector’s edition of Beavis and Butt-Head Do America which is the movie that took fans by storm back in the mid 90’s. For the show and movie to be as old as they are, they look and sound really good on the DVD’s here with the 2011 show looking better obviously due to digital animation. And speaking of bonuses, there’s a ton of them included here such as “Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head”, a Thanksgiving Special with Kurt Loder, the MTV 20th Anniversary Special for the series, the 2011 Comic-Con panel with Mike Judge, promo videos, and loads more fans will love.
It is sad that this isn’t a “complete” complete collection, but the Beavis and Butt-Head: The Complete Collection DVD set is as good as it gets for the time being. Packed with comedic gold for the original and 2011 series, as well as the movie and a ton of special features as treats for the fans, you’ll want to like…uhh…huh-huh-huh…buy this or something, especially if you’ve never seen these crazy teens and their vulgar but hilarious antics.
