Milestone has been handling the official Supercross game releases for quite some time now. While some of them have been hits, a few of the later entries haven’t hit pay dirt like they should. The company took a step back for a year and went over how they could improve the series, which gives us Monster Energy Supercross 25 that’s still has a few things to work out, but should keep fans playing in the dirt.
As with the previous entries, this title takes places within the AMA Supercross Championship in America, and features riders from both the 250cc East and West divisions, the 450cc AMA championships, as well as tracks from the current season with some fictional ones tossed in to keep things interesting.
Milestone is also stating that they’re so committed to making this their best entry, that they’ll release regular patches to update not only the game, but the real-life riders and tracks when they change. So if one of your favorite riders or tracks goes up or down the rankings and such, it’ll be the same way in the game.
One of the main things Milestone wanted to work on is the physics and handling engine in this series. They’ve improved on it by making it more responsive while also offering various ways to manipulate your bike so you can nail grabbing air and landings better.
Thankfully there’s a nice tutorial section that will guide you through the controls and some of these added skills while leaving it up to you to discover the other ones which might frustrate some players. I’m also happy to say there’s plenty of accessibility options you can access such as aids for steering to make riding a bit easier for newcomers.
Most of the gameplay will take place during the Career Mode where you create a rider and star in a fictional season while making your way to the top through the 250cc division and then head off to the 450cc championships. Another thing Milestone added to the series is improved AI for the other riders who tend to play very competitively, making it feel like you’re playing against real-life players in every race.
Speaking of which, this series also features full crossplay for online multiplayer, so you can play with people from the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X versions no matter which version you have and see who’s the best racer around. I also like how they added a course editor where you can create all sorts of fun tracks for you and others to race on.
Milestone also switched this series over to Unreal Engine 5, and it shows as the graphical details have been improved quite a bit, especially the tracks themselves with so much detail going into the dirt/mud textures, the fabric detail of banners and decorations, and more.
If you’re a fan of AMA Supercross or just bike racing games in general, you’ll want to give Monster Energy Supercross 25 a test drive in the dirt. Milestone taking a step back and tweaking their famed series paid off with this release which looks and plays great, while also being continually updated and patched that’s sure to keep fans happy and busy playing in the mud.
