Just when it looked like this Telltale Game series couldn’t get any better or deeper, they surprise me yet again in the latest episode of Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode Four: Who Needs You. This one trades in some of the more action-packed moments for deep, character development this time around in one of Telltale’s best entries yet.

Picking up immediately after the last episode, our favorite band of space heroes have literally hit rock bottom as they’re stuck in a cave with no way out. This gives them time to talk and eventually fight among themselves which leads to the team splitting into two groups, and it’s up to you to guide Peter/Star-Lord and get the band back together. It’s going to be a lot tougher this time though, because as soon as you try to work things out, even more bad things happen to the gang that will truly test their love for each other, and may even separate them forever.

To say anymore would ruin probably the best entry in the Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series yet. I will say that I enjoyed the slower pace in this episode as you really get to know the characters better and check out some of the most funny and dramatic bits the series has to offer so far. Without spoiling anything of course, it appears you lose not one, but multiple friends here that really takes its toll on the heroes and makes them reevaluate their friendships. The usuals suspects are here in the form of quick-time-events and exploration bits, but again it’s the story and choices you make that take center stage here, and they’re among some of the best I’ve experienced.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode Four: Who Needs You is probably the best episode I’ve played in this series yet. A slower pace gives way to touching and hilarious character moments and development, and is sure to keep fans and any who play glued to the screen until the somewhat cliffhanger end. Then we play the waiting game as the final episode, “Don’t Stop Believing”, can’t get here soon enough.
