We’re at E3, the world’s biggest gaming show, which means we absolutely, positively needed to check out what’s usually the biggest game of the year. This means heading over to Activision’s booth to experience some hands-on quality time with the latest version of Call of Duty with Call of Duty: Black Ops IV. Colleague Nia Bothwell and I ended up being thrown directly into some matches of this intense shooter – which, in turn, meant we were essentially playing in front of much of the show and garnering quite the crowd.
My performance was…well, marginal, but I don’t think we lost too badly. In terms of gameplay, well, it’s Call of Duty! Low time-to-kill shooting, fluid and action-packed movement and a surprising amount of depth when customizing your loadout are the orders of the day.
Perhaps the most interesting change is the fact that health no longer regenerates and you’ll need to use a rechargeable syringe to stay topped off. I can say with certainty that this one is more Call of Duty and that fans are bound to be pleased. Whether they’ll be as pleased about the lack of a solo campaign remains to be seen, however, when Call of Duty: Black Ops IV hits PC and consoles everywhere this October.
