I’m one of the few that has never played any of the Assassin’s Creed games out there, but hopefully one day I’ll remedy that. I have read up and watched videos on them however, and it seems to be a pretty well-made franchise for the most part (weird glitches aside). Fans and those looking to study up on this series will be happy to know that Insight Editions has released an epic, 320-page art book titled Assassin’s Creed: The Complete Visual History. Here readers will find that it follows the games chronologically while showcasing a lot of impressive and gorgeous illustrations that fans and those who enjoy art books will love.

Art director Raphaël Lacoste, who started out working on the AC games but left to work on other projects, introduces readers to the book with a nice foreword. For here, author Matthew Miller, an editor at Game Informer, takes us on an incredible journey through the Assassin’s Creed universe with the help of some of Ubisoft’s talented staff. Readers are treated to the mythology of the series and its characters such as Altair, Ezio, Connor, and Arno, while various artists from Ubisoft display amazing artwork alongside the informative text. To make things even more impressive, there’s also artwork for the recently released Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, downloadable content (DLC) of the games, graphic novels, and more, including loads of never-before-seen concept and character art for everything covered here.

To say this art book is well-made is an understatement. Weighing roughly five pounds and measuring around sixteen inches from top to bottom, this is one massive piece for your coffee table collection. The pages are printed with high quality, glossy paper that bring the text and especially the artwork to vivid life. It’s apparent Miller did a lot of research and work with the Ubisoft team, as the wealth of information contained here is both informative and fun to read, making for a rare page-turner of an art book that’s hard to put down once you start reading.

Assassin’s Creed: The Complete Visual History is another great release from Insight Editions that continues to raise the bar for high quality art books. Fans of the game series and those who love illustrations will equally gush over the informative content and beautiful pictures contained here. Those interested will want to stealth their way to their local book store and pick up this must-have tome for your collection.
