Nintendo's badboy of action returns in the stunning-looking 2D platformer designed to keep you moving and shaking all night long.

Written by Evan Nathans (editor-at-large)

Mario WHO?!

When I first laid my eyes on Nintendo's upcoming Wario Land: Shake-It!, all preconceptions went out the window.  Despite the questionable quality of some of the anti-Mario's most recent adventures, there's just no way I'm going to pass up a fully realized, completely 2D platformer in this day and age - no way, I tell you!  The more I see, the more I want to see, and as long as the Big N keeps serving up the good stuff, I'll keep drinking it up.

But can you blame me?  Look at how detailed and exquisite the latest Wario Land is looking right about now.  If there's one thing that true HD-gaming has yet to fully take advantage of, its the return of the proper hand drawn adventure done right.  Of course we all know that the Wii isn't a true HD-powered machine, but at this point if they can make 480p, progressive-scan graphics look this yummy, I'll have doubles!

So enjoy the crystal-clear images and (unfortunately) fuzzy trailer just below.  Wario may be many things, but he's never been more anticipated by yours truly than he has now.  First a brand-new 8-bit Mega Man and now state-of-the-art 2D thing of beauty?  Viva 2D platformers!

Not about plot so much as it is about craft, namely the ability to generate apprehension in situations where just about nothing happens.

Based on a premise that only gets progressively less likely the further it goes until it reaches an ending that might as well have been written for a fantasy novel.
